Works under the direct guidance of the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and in collaboration with senior management. The goal of this department is to collaborate with and provide expert scientific support to our clients and internal scientists and team members to assure all scientific processes and practices meet or exceed client needs. The Scientific Director has direct program authority and responsibility to direct the development, interpretation, implementation and achievement of scientific objectives for the company recommending and implementing procedural improvements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: • In collaboration with the COO and senior management, prepares and implements scientific strategy. • Responsible for scientific oversight at the site including strengthening client interactions through personalized engagements to continuously build and address client requests as well as leading a team which is dedicated to providing scientific input towards the design and implementation of client studies. • Assure that the scientific conduct of studies is in compliance with domestic and foreign expectations for discovery, with OSHA requirements, with USDA requirements, with FDA and with requirements of other agencies and groups. • Assist COO and senior management team in business operational matters such as business development, strategic planning, review SOWs, budgets, and cost analysis. • Develop short- and long-range operating objectives, integration initiatives, organizational structure, and staffing requirements in collaboration with COO. • Assure that all responsibilities and authority of each scientific job are clearly defined, effective, and communicated to COO. • Provides oversight of laboratory research and mentors technical staff in scientific research, including method development and refinement, study-related problem resolution and technique validation. • Strategically plans and assesses on-going progress and recommends revisions to company goals based on evaluation results: o Determines the effectiveness, outcomes, risks and measurable impact of contract research program. o Collaborates with personnel relevant to short and long-term objectives of the company and participates in developing and establishing companywide policies. o Participates in client’s visits, which may include on-site or off-site presentations. • Lead the analysis of complex scientific/study issues in and establish resolutions/decision points for a given program/project. • Drive the review and approval of study related documents in support of the scientific team • Allocate and manage resources effectively to ensure the scientific team is properly resourced to develop and validate assays and to analyze and interpret data as appropriate • Perform assessments and provide recommendation on models/assays to be validated and added to our offerings • Works closely with the staff to promote an atmosphere of teamwork and enthusiasm, provides leadership in solving problems of all levels of complexity: o Responsible for the scientific and professional growth of direct reports;
Scientific Director JOB DESCRIPTION: Participates in the interview and selection of qualified personnel; o Performs performance reviews, recommends salary changes. • Assure that effective communications are maintained within areas of responsibility. • Act within scope of authority and consistent with company and corporate objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices. • Recommend and implement techniques to improve productivity, increase efficiencies, cut costs, take advantage of opportunities, and maintain state-of-the-art practices. • Keep abreast of current trends and practices in field of expertise. • May serve as an IACUC member. • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Education Work Experience Graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) or equivalent in life science or related field. • >5 years related management experience in a CRO setting with a comprehensive understanding of the drug discovery and development process. This individual will also be recognized as a leader in the field of pharmacology, immunology and/or metabolic diseases and be well published. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
