Preparing for Your Interview:

Research the Company:

This step is crucial in preparing for an interview. Researching the company will help you develop questions to ask the managers interviewing you as well as prepare you for questions that might be asked of you. Look into the company’s products and/or services to get a better understanding of what they do prior to your interview.

Interview Tips and Questions to Prepare for:

Tell me about your background...
Why do you want this job?
What are your strengths?
What are your weaknesses?
Mention a time you were in a difficult situation. How did you handle this situation and what was the outcome?
How would your boss and coworkers describe you?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Why should we hire you?
Do you have any questions for us?

Prepare Questions:

You should want to get to know the organization  just as much as they want to get to know you. Asking questions such as, “What is your favorite part about working here?” is a great question to break the ice and get the conversation going. Ask specific questions about the position – “What challenges might I face in this role?” and “Can you describe the culture of the group?” Also, feel free to ask the manager about next steps – “What are the next steps in the process? / How soon are you looking to hire? etc.”  Writing down questions in advance and taking notes during your interview will show your focus, interest and desire to move forward.

What to Wear:

Dress to impress! It is always desirable to wear a suit to an interview.  Wearing a suit will show that you are a professional who is ready to take the next step in your career.

Following Up:

Sending a thank-you email is a professional way to show potential employers that you are interested in the position and that you appreciate that they took the time to meet with you. Be sure to separately thank all the individuals you formally met and be sure to express your interest in the position.
